The only negative thing I can say about it is its competitive viability but that's only because Lame Freak didn't want the Johto staters to upstage KANTOOOOO.

It's not very strong and while I think Meganium is cool I find Chikorita disgustingly ugly. Also my favorite Pokemon ever is Venusaur and it's just worse by any metric.

Its pretty damn useful as a support or buffer in gen 2. You can do screens, you can status, you can SD and sweep.

I dont see how you can dislike any Johto starter, they're neat.

I picked Chikorita for my first ever run of Silver, a few days ago. I picked it because it looks like the hard mode of Gen2 : you struggle against the first gyms and you have to build a team instead of relying on your overpowered starter. I liked it a lot, it was a good tank, I really managed to give it a strategic role. The other two however only learn offensive moves and seem to be no brainer

its entire body is kind of underdesigned. its just a fat vaugely dinosaur shaped green blob with flower petals around its neck and some antenna/pistol kinda things. It needed some more details on its body. at least venusaur has dark spots and warts on its skin.

It's kind of forgettable. Design is pretty bland and it's not good in battle. The only thing it has going for is it's superior pre evolutions and its vague girliness to appeal to coomers.
