I beat the elite 4 once and every time after that I would always restart because I caught a pokemon with a bad nature (Mareep for example). Rather than catching another one I would simply restart the whole file instead. As for Hoenn and Alola, those are two of my favorite regions so I honestly did enjoy playing those games despite how often people complained about water and cutscenes. In fact, I had never even realized how many cutscenes the game had until people on /vp/ started pointing it out. The only time I had an issue with Alola's cutscenes was the cutscene before you get your starter. It makes soft resetting a pain in the ass. But aside from that, I don't recall I had an issue with the cutscenes
