I never played Platinum and I wanted to replay HG/SS. Which one should I start with? Is Platinum that much better?

Are you a purist or a fighter?
If you are a purist, play Platinum first, then HG or SS.
If you want more challenges, I suggest downloading these games:

I tried his Gen V hacks but couldn't get into them desu. The 'every Pokemon in one region' meme really starts to become a problem the more Pokemon you have. I was spending half my time running in circles just trying to find the damn Pokemon I wanted - and since he STILL won't implement a nature/ability changer, you have to catch like 5 of everything to get something useable.

Then again I think Johto will benefit from an update much more. Gen V games are decent enough vanilla, Johto really dropped the ball on Pokemon distribution and Gym Leader teams.

When I downloaded the games, I never expected that my EDGE card would already contain the cheats to BB2 / VW2.
Some of them are:
Nature changer.
IV / EV changer.
100% catch rate from all pokeballs.
Wild encounter modifier.
PC everywhere.
EXP multiplier.
and others.
I don't use them all, but boy... I can't stop playing now. This is literally everything I dreamed about in a Pokemon game.
I have to try Sacred Gold / Storm Silver and finish Renegade Platinum sometime next year.

Sounds based. I figured out how to get PkHex working with ROMhacks since I last played them, so maybe it's time to give it another shot.
I did notice in Renegade Plat if you change a Pokemon's ability it reverts back on evolution though. Not a huge deal but kinda irritating.
