how the fuck did this meme start? his pokemon deal fuck all damage because they have no rock moves and ember does more than enough. If anything beating him with bulbasaur is harder because bulbasaur gets no usable grass moves until fucking lv13.

Charmander fans never complain about hard mode though, the whole "picking your starter is a difficulty option" thing was presented by Grass type fans trying to boost their respective starter's popularity. Bulbasaur fans want to make their pick seem more appealing, so they constantly bring up how Bulbasaur is "the best in-game pick" and beats the first two gyms, while Chikorita fans would always use "uhh actually picking Chikorita is hard more therefore you're more skilled if you pick Chikorita" as a last ditch effort to make Chikorita not sound worthless.

Red and blue gym leaders aren't even that difficult the movesets are complete garbage you can just beat the game with your entire starter even with Charmander.

The irony is that Whitney is literally the only Gym in Johto considered difficult, and it's the one that Chikorita beats easiest.

Blastoise has always been trash
Charizard had the advantage of at least being one of the few Fire types in the game. And a totally unique (bar Moltres) typed one. Blastoise on the other hand is completely outclassed by basically every Water type in the game - and there are tons of them.

I am trying a Chikorita play and...lets say Meganium is not being useful. Its only STAB move is too weak and his coverage is only Normal Type. Charmander line at least dealt with the Bug types.
