Let's chalk my posts up to hyperbole.
I see a lot of old-school fans clamouring for characters of the day but most aren't the types of names and faces that propel the brand. The reason why they tend to be held so dear is because the series didn't have much of a cast then and nowadays the games by themselves have enough distinct and memorable characters leaving the extras in the anime as glorified set dressing.
