The game on the right is Sword of Mana.
The 2D Mana games have all been relatively graphically impressive. If you compare them to other JRPGs on the same consoles, the Mana games aren't just better looking than Pokemon, the beat most other JRPGs too, including Square's own games. The Mana games on SNES look much better than the Final Fantasy games.
The thing is that those games are small. The content just isn't the same as other JRPGs; smaller worlds, less enemies, less options in battle, less gameplay variety. The gameplay is pretty weak too. They're action-RPGs, and like a lot of other action-RPGs, they do the RPG part worse than turn-based games and they do the action part worse than than action games. Keep in mind that the Mana series has 11 fucking games and only 2 of them ever became popular. From fucking Square, who were the KING of RPGs at the time; they only shat out hit after hit after hit, even when it came to new IPs; yet the Mana series has only ever been a subpar series despite how many games it got. It's really a style over substance series.
