Not the person you're responding to, BW1 actually has the best story of any *mainline* Pokemon game. It's a low bar to clear, but it does clear it.

In B2/W2 you can catch a Riolu, Magnemite, Azurill, etc. early on. Later on you can find fucking wild Politoed, Tyranitar, Dragonite, etc. I think there's something like 540 Pokemon obtainable without trading, an absolute shitload. Also the new areas fucking rock. That volcano town by the haunted building and that stalactite cave....so beautiful. In general the game is just wonderul

It's not going to win any awards but by Pokemon standards it's leagues above everything else.
I'm sure if the games had gotten better reception then they could have built on that foundation and we'd be getting games with more competently-told stories by now, but it is what it is

Pokefilm Studios was absolutely based and was essentially an entire bonus standalone game packaged in with the main game. Extremely fun and creative, with a couple of the film storylines unironically being better plots than some of the entire mainline games' plots (cough cough Gen 6)

"simple" doesn't mean "bad". and bw1 has the gym challenge/elite 4 quest climax at the same time as the evil team plot, which I thought was legitimately super good (and fun to play).

The music in N's Caslte is so fucking good
A bit of a missed opportunity that the castle didn't have random encounters, they could have done that thing some RPGs do in their final dungeons where the music keeps going during battles, that would have been coom-worthy

To be fair it's not like the main games have much gameplay on offer either. If anything the only things the main games do better than fangames are the story and the graphics.

Like I'm glad there's a way to get certain mons with HAs, but was it really necessary to lock the gender of the mon when the grotto regenerates? Like Dragonite is already a 1% chance to spawn
