Current Pokemon is basically in full realization that their product doesn't need much effort in order to sell and make them money. People will buy and defend Pokemon regardless of the cuts or low level of effort placed into the games for it.

It also just lacks any real competition and most that try to come into the scene just don't have anything close to the power that Pokemon has. It's not even with games alone as Pokemon has that lasting recognition where people who barely even know the series know what it is. It gets a lot of free publicity and shows up in games as references or straight up cameos like Smash. Fan games are highly popular regardless of the corporations own actions against their creation and usage of C&D actions. It has a popular and widely known anime that lasts even to this day and a card game that is debatably the most popular one in the world. Beating out the likes of Yugioh and Magic the Gathering.

TLDR: Pokemon is too large to die and nothing can really stop it.

But it's obviously not as polished as swsh, ofc, pkm is, after all, the biggest franchise in the world.. hard to compete. Anyway, temtem is a good game, worth the $25, again imo. The objective was not to kill pokemon, was to develop an alternative for ppl that are not happy. However, I feel that they sometimes get too close to the "original" and lack identity. That will hurt temtem in the end, they just can't live in the shadow... On the other end, the devs of the game seem to be happy just copy pasting whatever pokemon did, and change some minor stuff they personally did not agree with... Before this thread gets nuked I just wanna say you really should have a more open mind about these things, the game isn't going to blow your socks off but it definitely has some bright spots and has solved mechanical problems that Pokemon refuses to even 20 years later. I'm unironically more interested to see the last 2 Islands in this game come out then whatever Gamefreak shits out on a plate next year because I know that whatever it is will probably surprise me instead of being shackled to the same 20 year old story formula.

I think the issue isn't that the games aren't financially successful because pokemon's popularity overshadows them, it's that investors aren't eager to fund games that they see as competing with pokemon because the profits will be smaller in comparison to pokemon. I'm sure a new Monster Rancher game could make enough to justify making more of them, but not consistent 10m+ figures. That's the real issue.

Let's say you kept losing online in both Pokemon and Temtem, and you're losing in the same fashion amd you aren't doing comparatively better in either one, which one are you more likely to give another shot? In Temtem you know the result is going to be about the same no matter what you do, but in Pokemon there's always a chance you could luck out and get a result-altering crit or land a low accuracy move when you really need to.

Why are you playing Pokemon in the first place then. You can't say "well it used to be good" when you used to be able to prevent the opponent from ever attacking by getting lucky with Wrap. So what is it then? "Oh I want Pokemon to be this more balanced thing which I think would be good". You THINK it would be good, but you've no evidence to prove it would be better this way, and Temtem's failure to maintain interest certainly seems to undermine your supposition that it would be. If you had an iota of game design knowledge, you'd know that Pokemon actually would not benefit from every type having the same number of strengths and weaknesses, would not benefit from every type having the same number of good and bad moves and would not benefit from every Pokemon having the same base stat total rearranged.

If YOU knew ANYTHING about good game design you would realize that bad things should either be improved or removed and the game RNG is one those things also all the things you said at the end are extremely fucking subjective and you have no way to prove the opposite, many types fucking wish they have a strong reliable attack, many pokémon are held back or dragged to garbage stats because they lack good tools to use. Also what the hell do you mean Temtem's failure to maintain interest? The game is not dead, there is an active community about the game, it's on steam 2020 best selling for fuck sake.

This, its cheaper and has better gameplay than nu pokemon games, but for me, the shit designs ruin it. At least if in my adventure i have a team of 6 pokemon i find cool, i can enjoy it a bit. Temtems have even rounder and cartoonier designs than pokemon, extremely ugly color palettes and just lack charisma in general. I envy anyone that likes the temtem designs because they will probably have more fun than i will ever have with monster battling games.

AND TO ELABORATE, if every type had the same good moves, same good stats and same good matchups, then you lose an astonishing amount of flavor from the game. There's no "wow, you KO'd a Metagross using a Cacturne through prediction??" moments if Metagross and Cacturne are equally good in every way. If there's no good or bad pokemon, then it is no longer noteworthy. "Wow.. Brown Pikachu defeated Beige Pikachu.. as expected, as there are no randomization mechanics and both pokemon have access to an equally robust movepool."

You're confused. I am not defending. I am explaining how the human brain works, and why it is successful. Saying the human brain gets a fucking hard on from gacha gambling mechanics isn't defending it, it is stating a fact, and it is why it is favorable to include those mechanics in RPGs where they are not being used as a predatory tactic.

Every time you walk into the grass, you are doing a gacha summon roll. You found Chansey in the grass? Wow, that's a rare summon! Now you got to throw balls at Chansey. These are all RNG rolls, you catch Chansey based on a successful roll, and Chansey has a low catch rate so that's gonna be tough! You can attack Chansey and lower its health to increase the catch rate, but that's just increasing the chance of the RNG roll coming out in your favor. But uh-oh, Chansey knows Softboiled and can heal itself! That reduces the catch rate again, and Chansey has a 1 in 4 chance of selecting Softboiled every turn! That's even more RNG! But oh hey, you lucked out and caught Chansey on your fifth ball throw, that's really impressive! And why is it impressive? Only because of how stacked the RNG is against you, and because of how unlikely it would be to catch Chansey with only five ball throwing attempts with all of that taken into account.

And that's all fine! It isn't predatory, it's just fun! And no, the game making you have "fun" isn't some kind of nefarious manipulation tactic. Jumping on a Goomba in Super Mario and getting 100 points added to your nebulous score tally isn't a plot by the illuminati, it's just a fun mechanic and part of the game experience.

Actually, the designs end up growing on you... Some of them are really pkm like, others are just awful, and I mean Stonejourner awful. You would have to play the game to understand, but obviously you did not... The platy line is pretty average, imo.
