The games fluctuate in quality storywise cause all the games have different writers.
If the writer is shit, the story is shit. So Game Freak can't be good at storytelling cause its not the whole company writing.

it really depends on the game as they fluctuate by extreme means. At the best I'd call them serviceable, at worst I'd call them rehash of one that was actually fun.

They made a good story once and it feels like they're too scared to go away from that success story wise so they retread similar grounds often coming out sloppy because how they apply it to the newer characters/settings.

They have some good ideas, and on rare occasions they turn out ok.
But most of the time they don't even try or make something offensively bad like Rose's bullshit.
