How do evolutions ruin designs? If you prefer the first stage, just leave it at that. It's not like a crappier evolution takes away from the original design.

Honestly I think quite a few Gen 1 designs are actually pretty bad but liked because of nostalgia.
Scyther is a perfect example.

Acyther and Scizor are different pokemon, different types. Now Scyther can use Dual Wingbeat better than Scizor. There's no reason to dislike one or another.
