On average when you play through a pokemon game, how many unique pokemon do you usually have by the time you:
>beat the 2nd gym
>beat the 4th gym
>beat the 6th gym
>beat the league and become champion
>are satisfied with what you have done in the postgame and quit the game
People meme about kids mashing through the games with just their starter all the time, so I was kind of curious how many pokemon people like to use.

Not sure about each gym, but I've usually caught about 8-10 by the end of a game. My planned 6 team members and then a few early mons to help with HMs or just filling in the team depending on the game.

Try to have three mons. Exceptions being 2 in BW2 and having a full team by that point in XY

Try to have five if not a full team at this point. Exception being 4 in BW2 as the last two mons were past the bridge

Full team no exception as anything that comes later feels like I barelt had time to use it
>Postgame
Go back and fill the new mons into dex starting with legendary sidequest
>Other
Usually use just pokemon introduced in that gen with a few exceptions if new forms of mons(blastoise in XY, G-yamask in SS, and Honckrow in HGSS)

I start catching any mon i see once I get postgame and can just spend all excess money.

It just feels good to switch out pokemon on the team with the new exp share and I personally enjoy it more than the system in previous gens.

I usually catch around 50 on a first playthrough, get bored and don't bother filling the dex until postgame, and then never catch more than a dozen on subsequent playthroughs.
