>>45817024The games are incredibly mediocre despite the QoL improvements they brought to the competitive scene and the Pokémon that were introduced. The story was incredibly bare bones, the characters are poorly developed outside of a single personality trait (think AC villager personalities, and that is how deep most of the characters are, even the rivals and Champion). Opal and Mustard are probably the only exceptions to the rule. Story is just the gym challenge plus some poorly devised subplot about the Legendary wolves being censored from history or some shit, which had no significant result. The villain teams are not even villain teams. The rivals are shit. Post game is just going to stadiums to stop two rich idiots from trying to repeat the Darkest Day plot, and challenging raid dens. The game gets periodic raid den updates but very few of them are interesting. Most are type or Gigantamax Pokémon based, but you get the monthly rare set shiny encounter. Probably the best den we had was the Easter egg event. We will never get something like that again.
Isle of Armor is pretty to look at but aside from the bare bones plot and an Alolan Diglett fetch quest, it is nothing to write home about.
Crown Tundra is even worse as it is just a Legendary Pokémon fetch quest under the guise of exploration. It has a cool new shiny hunting method but the plot is not even there. Calyrex is hand holding, the birds are just an hindrance, and the Regis are all locked away in a temple. The footprint quest was interesting but the end result was boring. Keldeo being available in the game is a perk. I wish more Mythicals got this treatment. Dynamax Adventures are stupid. Galarian Star Tournament is also meh.
I give these games a 3/10. Probably the worst gen.
