>>45824407>>45824593Typhlosion has been depicted without flames since Gen 2 in Stadium games and the anime. It's also been depicted without flames in its PMD sprites. This is obviously because those games had the ability to showcase its dynamic design and ability to turn them on/off, which is a good decision that brings the mon to life.
The problem with the XY+ models is that they copied the way these games handled it while ignoring why this is the case for those games. In Stadium's case, the game is just battling so there isn't really another context in which to showcase the no flames mode. In PMD's case, the sprites are used throughout the entire game and having it flamed up at all times while walking around towns and such ruins the point of the design. In the mainline 3D games, however, there is no real reason for the flames to not be on at all time during battles as they now have the ability to present the design in different contexts. Whether it's during Amie/Refresh/Camp or on the overworld, they now have a fitting place for them to show off no flames Typhlosion and therefore it is no longer necessary to do so in battle and as a result they can now let it have its flames permanently for the duration of the battle (or until it is KO'd).
