The fact they equated Pokémon 2019 to their past core games when announcing LGPE was indication enough to me they weren't changing demographics, especially not when the *very* young children were too young to play GO unaccompanied, thus were never a focus as much as the rest of the franchise makes them.
LGPE was to drag the GO-normies who'd played Pokémon before, back in while they set up Gen VIII, but Gen VIII was always going to be used as they'd used RS, DP, BW, XY and SM - sell it to the young kids, get them hooked on the franchise continue the master plan as devised in Gen I.
