Like, for example, remember the one doll people just keep asking for non-stop? He was no where popular (or bandwagoned) it was before K.Rool got included. It wasn't even a ballot influence either since Geno was an afterthought and the hype that was there being diminished in 4's period. Same happened to Isaac and pretty much any character people thought they were "locked in", and not in a /tv/fag's sense for the love of God, for the game.
and I'll be very real, if it wasn't for those dumb leaks, Incineroar wouldn't made its popularity among speculators, hence why he placed high in that one multi-site poll i forgotten about. He's another case of how in-genuine local fan polling are.
