To be fair, most Pokemon games have awful replayability. They are so fucking slow, you can't even skip text, some games have shit mon distribution, so your options are limited for a while, and probably other things I'm not thinking about right now.
BotW has the advantage of being open world, and having so little text in the way, and Odyssey might have a more linear progression, but you can do so much on each kingdom it barely even matters

I replay Odyssey just to chill in the worlds. There's so much care built into the designs you can just hang out in the game without doing much, like with BoTW.
Obviously SWSH being empty and roadblocked is not the kind of experience I enjoy revisiting.

Fuck, I forgot about this. It's was really shitty on older games if you didn't have a way to transfer your mons, and if you were playing a new gen on release, you had to wait until another compatible game came out to safely transfer shit. SWSH is kinda replayable thanks to the Switch and how it handles savefiles, and all the mons you can get early one, but god damn, it REALLY needs an option to skip text

BOTW and Odyssey have more replay value because you can try to do things in different orders and do different shrines/stars (vast majority of players wouldn't have done 100% in either, so there would always be a chance of discovering new areas you didn't encounter the first time). Pokemon games have never given you much free reign of what direction to take, you could go a few different directions around the middle of the games generally and that's about it. You can change your team but you'll be doing the same stuff with them, you either have to give yourself bad pokemon or set nuzlocke style rules to give yourself an interesting replay because gamefreak refuses to implement the hard mode that they toyed around with in Gen 5.

Nah, SwSh for people that aren't autistic seething over-aged weirdos is a fully packed game, so they're not voting to "replay SwSh" specifically because they did not even finish it yet. Besides BOTW and Odyssey are older games with no focus on monster and resource collecting that warrant a replay more.

Main story is around 21 hours. Post game takes that total up to around 28. IoA story takes that up to around 30 and a half hours. Calyrex's story takes the total up to around 33 hours. After that it just depends on how long it takes you to catch legendaries and do the max lair and other raids. It's certainly not a "fully packed game". I got over 80 hours out of BOTW, SwSh + Expasion pass didn't even come close.

How long new Pokemon games take to beat compared to an older game with shittier QoL and factualy slower movement speed doesn't matter, the fact is that Pokemon games in general are not the kind of game people replay since the collecting of monsters and items is akin to filling a stamp album, and more specifically, definetely less replayable than adventure games from 2017 like BOTW and Odyssey specially when the DLC just came out.

I beat Ruby Sapphire as a kid that did not even know how to read properly yet in a single weekend and that didn't matter because by the point I had captured and traded for everything and battled various friends, key features the game offered, I was in the 100s.

Meanwhile I beat Mario Odyssey in 13 hours and 2 replays of it have boosted that only to 45. The Pokemon genre just lasts way beyond the main campaign.

Just about any game with online play can be said to have "near infinite" playtime. Pokemon is not special in that way. And raising Pokemon in SwSh is super easy since the DLCs came out and allow you to pretty much instantly make a Pokemon perfect with mints, cheap vitamins, and Cramomatic bottle caps and all the candies you get from max lair and IoA dens.

The fact is that most players don't play online for too long and most people also don't even complete the dex. They finish the story and battle online for a bit then move on to the next game. There's a reason the remakes remove content, it's because they know comparatively few people really bothered with it.

Phil Hughes is a professional athlete. His salary in 2016 was like 9 million dollars. You're sadly correct. They can keep making barebones games with shit for content since they know it doesn't matter to the masses. Putting in more work to make it a meatier game is a waste on their end when people will buy low effort shit anyway. Now they know they can even get away with cutting the dex (even though they added most back anyway (lied twice kek)) and the sales just go up instead of down.

Pokemon is much bigger than GameFreak and adapted very well to the social media era, to the point the franchise basically fuels itself. One time its mainline games being a fad, then a mobile game, now Pokemon cards. The series is too big to fail, thats why they can get away with pretty much anything as long as the character designers are getting paid well.
