I did the same. My smaller siblings (7 years younger, 13 and 16 years younger, im 27) always wanted to play my pokemon games.

I didnt want them to ruin my saves, or god forbid, restart a new save, so i never gave any of them to them. Best decision ever.

i know. just replayed Crystal. HGSS is better on the attack part, at least.

I haven't touched my Soul Silver in years even thought it's my favorite. I have all my best/favorite shit in there from the GTS fuckery days and I don't want to lose them by starting a new game. Is it possible to move that stuff up to the switch games or nah?

it is, obviously. You need to transfer it to BW or BW2 with a seperate DS (Old DS and 3DS work too, any of the DS family) via that stupid minigame with the blue pokeballs and the bow.

From there you use the Pokemover app to transfer them to Pokemon Bank, which you need to transfer it to Home and therefore, Sword&Shield.

Its a bit of fuckery, but doable. Did that with a few boxes of unown for completing our living Form Dex in Home.

Okay so it'll just take a lot of time and a few bucks? I guess that's worth it. On one hand I like having all my favorite stuff in my favorite game but on the other, it's pointless to let it all just rot there. If you´re lucky you can ask to borrow a console from a friend or sibling, and use their games to send that stuff up to bank.

Just know that to send stuff from IV to V, your gen V file has to be nearly complete story-wise. I don't remember the city exactly but it's fairly late. I don't think any of the other up-gen transfers have that kind of requirement.

repros don't let you poketransfer, or pal park
you can play the game normally, they sometimes get stuck while saving, are slower too or may not be able to beat the elite 4 as well, and the game basically is forever stuck in the last place you saved before beating it.
flashcarts I have used don't have the eite 4 problem, come patched for piracy and work fine, but still don't let you pal park or poketransfer

Major games run fine, I don't use it because it had troubles running Etrian Odyssey or MKDS romhacks back then (2-3 years ago iirc), while a DS flashcard run them fine and was necessary to hack a 3DS at the time anyway
But If you managed to hack your 3ds installing twilightmenu isn't complicated
