I actually do like this, the Elite Four in both Gen 1 and 2 have types that don't fit the monotype and it gives them more "flavor" I guess, can't just sweep them

The problem is not the diverse team, but the fact it points out how bad the Fire pokemon distribution is. If there were a plethora of fire types but he still had a diverse team, no one would be complaining. People would probably unironically think he’s the best E4 member just because of it

Generally I tried to find the most fire type-y Pokemon in DP Sinnoh Pokedex. Skuntank learns Flamethrower naturally, Drifblim is a hot air balloon (both have Aftermath so they both are explosive) and Cherrim is fitting Sun theme.

The idea was that both Steven and Wallace are champions, one is in Ruby/Omega Ruby and the other is in Sapphire/Alpha Sapphire.

Wallace specialises in sea Pokemon, I gave him Cradily so it will be counterpart to Steven's Armaldo.
Steven specialises in land Pokemon, I gave him Relicanth, it's similar to the fish that came on land and it is a counterpart to Wallace's Whiscash which is known for shaking the ground.

I tried to represent the dualism of land and sea and that they are inseparable.

You know Barboach, which evolves into Whiscash, is based on the fish that can actually survive on land, right? And that it would have been more fitting for Steven?

Cool! Relicanth looks more rocky and ancient, something Steven would study and it would lead him to the sea.
Whisash looks just like a fish, fitting more to water trainer, but when deeper examied it will interest Wallace in land.

It is only 10 point lower than Cradily. I didn't really think it would make much difference. After all, it is champion, you can make him harder with better movesets and higher levels.
