>>45843941Stop with the manchild strawman, the game has objective downgrades that warrant criticism, such as feature stripping. It also could do much more than what it did, and we know that because we can compare it to it's console peers.
If gamefreak wants to sell less, or if they believe doing it this way sells more, that's their problem. But a competent company will always try to sell more, and it's pretty retarded to believe they'll just ignore a portion of the fanbase without having a good reason to. Voicing dissent is useful for increasing the chances of the game having changes that cater to you, specially if their sales dwindle.
Does a virtual pet game matters? Not really. But you're in VP, of course people are going to discuss the game here. It's ludicrous to come to a forum dedicated to discussion of said games and be mad that people are talking about these games.
As whether their strategy was good, consider the following: there are 70 million switch units sold. The Covid Crisis also saw a very big increase in video-game sales (70% to 23% compared to the year before, depending on month, according to the world economic forum), so SW/SH had a sales boost as well. That means that, despite almost 4 times as many chances to sell these games + covid boost, the game only managed to sell about as much as DP. So even in a very favourable situation, the game hasn't managed to significantly increase it's player-base, all of that while garnering bad will from part of their most loyal customers (many of whom still bought their game despite saying it's shit). That means less free press coverage, less people talking and being excited for your game, and less people recommending your games.
This isn't sustainable. They might get away with it now, but how many copies will they sell when they have to rely on a less popular system, while competition only gets stronger? I might be wrong, but I can't see how this game can be considered a sucess and not an early warning.
