You get a much smaller image and you have to deal with the shitty 3DS panels, not 1:1 because of the 3DS’ rectangular pixels, most likely one of the panels is TN with a shifted white point and you have to put up with the horizontal lines even on the 2DS XL because they reused 3DS panels.

The resolution is why it’s so good. Gen 4 games use sprites, they still look good on a larger screen as long as they are scaled correctly. Any resolution change other than a 2x panel would look worse than the 1x of the DSi XL and even with a 2x panel the games wouldn’t see any benefit apart from maybe less visible subpixels because the game would still render at the same resolution.

This is retarded, there's always input delay on LCDs but if you have a good one and a good scaler or line doubler you can minimize it to perfectly manageable levels, one or two frames at most. That's perfectly playable for the average person.

CRTs only matter for tasks that require frame perfect inputs, like competitive fighters or speedrunning.

Muh bigger is better crowd is the worst thing to happen to handhelds, I vastly prefer the DSi's screen to the XL's. It's in a sweet spot.

Honestly, though, the original DS with a brighter screen(as if I'll ever find one of those) is the ideal experience, IMO. I don't mind the screen size terribly, and it just feels better to control. The tiny d-pad on the lite models and on make my thumb feel like shit after a while of play. Control comfort is every bit as important as a good display.

None*, it’s a worse console to own in a direct comparison for not playing GBA games. It’s advantages beyond the screen mostly comes down to the better ergonomics and build quality as well as amazing battery life and the best speakers of any device in the (3)DS line. But most people who play Pokémon have more than one system for trades and transfers and shit so you might as well have a DS lite and the other be a DSi XL and use it as the main system for DS games.
