I skipped Gen VIII because my NSW was acting funny. My favourite was HGSS because of the beauty graphics and soundtrack.

I might consider buying Sword and Shield but first:

You can buy both but it's a bit of a waste like any Pokémon game.
The main differences are a few characters being swapped around between versions and the shield legendary being way more lame. Otherwise it's the same exact game.
Also the only people that say Sword is significantly better than Shield are coomers that wanna fuck Klara.
