Yes. Although Gyarados should be a dragon anyway and not a flying type. Dragonite should've been water/dragon with how its dex entries go on and on about water. GF screwed up on those two's typings so badly.

There are never referenced in any official media. The games never mention them, the anime never mentions them, the manga never mentions them.

They're just a mechanic for breeding, which is itself just a game mechanic for player convenience rather than something that actually exists in Pokemon's world.
