>>45865730All in all Gen 6 got the test run treatment.
Gen 7 was a strong improvement after Gamefreak learned how to program on the 3DS. The characters were hugely improved, the game looked better in general, there was actual innovation instead of hanging on to Kanto’s coattails with Alola Forms, Ultra Beasts, new mini games and more, but there were also flaws like long cutscenes. Even if you didn’t like Alola you knew twice the effort was put into it compared to the previous gen.
Gen 8 largely suffers from what Gen 6 did. First games on a brand new console. The DLC’s especially Crown Tundra carried the gen from being downright bad, but other than the Pokemon designs (although many are excessively humanesque garbage) there is not much going for Galar. Very short, linear routes with little effort put into the houses in towns which were all copy and pasted, a story that no one cared about or can probably even remember after having played it, and having been largely inspired from Go’s success with Dynamax battles, the laziest feature ever introduced in Pokemon.
I think Gen 9 will be better.
