I'm thinking of making a fakedex and I want some design tips
It would be nice o give examples of poor designs so I know what to avoid drawing

Despite what /vp/ might think, you shouldn't make the entire dex Pokémon someone would want to use. You need a good mix of "player" mons and "enemy" mons, even if technically they all fall into both.

- Keep the designs simple.
- Keep the concept simple.
- Strike a balance of body types, as well as type representation.
- Only do 3-stage lines if the middle stage is distinct from the first and final stages or a bridge in growth is necessary. Pidgeotto was okay in 1996, not so much in 2021.
- Surprise typings should be the exception and not the rule.
- Try at least one rep of each of these:
>Fish
>Bird
>Plant
>Flower
>Object
>Mineral
>Fairy
>Mollusk
>Insect

not her but I think you can definitely add items on later stages, it's just that it'll get old quickly if you do it too often with too outlandish ones. Torchic into Combusken is an example of "new typing upon evolution" executed well, I'd say.
Of course the player will expect the caterpillar mon to evolve into a moth or something, so cases like that are obviously exempt from this.

Adding onto this, a good dex needs mons that appeal to different people. That's why all gens have a mix of cool/cute/weird/spooky/etc mons.

No, I meant if it looks electric it should be electric, "looks a type but it's another" is fine as a small, around 5-10% group. Type changes upon evolution depend on what concepts you go with, you can have few or you can have many.
