Slow engine, tiny pokedex, lots of HMS, non-reusable tms, missing some types within the dex, strange level curve can lead to grinding late, it just has a lot of little problems that add up to make playing the games painful. Many early games share the problems, but have other strengths like RBY's many glitches to play with. Platinum makes DP pointless, but even then doesn't fix most of the biggest issues.

It's really sad seeing the drop in quality from XY to SM. Gen 6 was lauded as mediocre for having the bare essentials with little flavor but Gen 7 only ended up doubling down and steeping even lower by removing the essentials.
There was a time we thought the National Dex would never EVER be touched and yet here we are. All of this can be traced back to that fateful decision they made during SM's development in 2015; and it's a shame because from the concept art they could have been fantastic games if it weren't for the lack of content, QOL that Gen 6 had, and overall unmemorable region.

By a lot of people after ORAS. XY were pretty well received but the Battle Frontier spergout forever tainted the reputation of that Gen and made people eager to just get another game.
Most of the praise I see for SM today is still copeposting from people who never actually played a Gen 6 game and thinks that Gen 7 did anything better when all it did was remove content.

It was a Kalos gimmick at the time. They don't put regional gimmicks in remakes even though they could benefit from them. FRLG with secret bases and HGSS with contests and seals would have been kino. LGPE would've been okay with Z-Moves I guess.

They are uglier than XY though, yeah. Some of the decisions were baffling however they're still at least on par with Emerald with all the good stuff it added to combat the bad.

I started on Gen 2 release and went back to play Gen 1 when they were still popular. I'm old as fuck. Gen 5 (BW specifically) is my favorite because of how unique it is. The sheer fucking balls it took to release a game with ZERO old-gen Pokemon obtainable before post-game is unbelievable. And the harder focus on character was great. Bianca and Cheren's growth was great.

I recognize why it's so polarizing, but I find that Gen 5 did so much right that I can't even be bothered by what it did wrong.

That's because they been trying to make Unova into Kanto 2.0 by copying so many concepts from the gen 1 mons. It's also why it has such a large pokedex, because many mons are ideas that already existed in the franchise.
That's something you unova retards never acknowledge when you go "hurr durr, it was so bold and innovative when gf bootlegged themselves with gen 5!!!"

My biggest problem with SW/SH isn't even the games themself. I never played them.
The last hope the community ever had for Pokemon was for a mainline jump to console. It didn't even have to be good, it just had to be an actually complete game.

Always in the boxes, it made moving things quick and easy.
For some reason, the boxes feel so much more sluggish in Gen 7 and it's actually a pain to move things with precision when you have a big collection, that's why.

USUM remains the worst Pokémon game I’ve ever played. The only positive thing I can say about them is that they caused the fanbase to bully GameFreak to stop bothering with 3rd versions from now on. Sun and Moon had a lot of good things, but most of them ultimately boiled down to wasted potential bogged down by the sheer lack of everything that gave every older game flavor.

Not entirely. You have places that the checkpoint never lead you to, like Mele Mele Sea and Ten Carat Hill

People are say X, and Y, or sun, and moon was the downfall of the franchise. AT LEAST I GOT TO PLAY WITH MY FAVORITE FUCKING POKEMON!!!

Fuck Sword, and Shield. I even went as far as trying the game thinking. "Hey, maybe it's not that bad" It was that bad, though the DLC had some improvements, Sword, and Shield was still fucking terrible with the linear experience, map design, hand holding, and difficulty that I find even lower than X, and Y.
