It feels like they kinda learned during SM to not shill the shillmon too hard too, Lycaronc didn't steal Pikachu's spot in the final battle and didn't do much during the season. So hopefully the same happens with Lucario.

It's even worse that everyone except Lucario and Pikachu are getting sidelined hard in his current team. I don't think I'll be interested in this season again until they stop shilling the dog so hard or at least bring back any of his Oakmons.

I don't know why people are surprised by this team. The anime has changed from a game promotional tool to a full brand promotional tool. It no longer makes sense for Ash to not market popular older Pokemon like Lucario, Gengar, and Dragonite in addition to new stuff.
