At least BW had a reason to go for dichotomies. Nowadays, it's almost certainly something marketability-related. In general, Pokémon designs have become way less vague and more explicit about their function within their world with fewer and fewer designs being there for the sake of having a "cool" Pokémon with vague design philosophy as most design pre-Gen 5.
