This would be a pretty easy to fix actually, you should just be able to buy a grooming kit as a one-time purchase for your bag and maybe have some tie-in to amie, and you collect different fur patterns throughout the overworld somehow as the story progresses. That’d make it way more engaging even if it was still purely visual.
