Because it's the first mainline Pokemon game to be released on a home console and instead of doing something really memorable and special to begin the HD generation of mainline Pokmeon it was phoned in in every possible aspect of development.

Weird as fuck looking characters. Half of them look like tranny's. Story is lazy as always. They gave shield dog the worst moveset. UI looks like a preschooler designed them. DLC's to give them an excuse for the god awful region. What's not to hate?

As someone who regrettably bought the game, they're genuinely the worst mainline series games I've ever had the misfortune to play. It's easy to hate these games because it has so many obvious vulnerabilities.

they have their fun moments but you can't deny a lot of the charm of previous games just isn't there
