>>45891476>In your opinion, are Pokemon games better with simple plots or more complex ones?I don't give a fuck as long as it's done well.
Kanto is a great example of a simplistic plot, it's minimalistic in all the right ways and makes the player feel like they've got some control in how they explore the region, and you can even jump around to different towns out of order if you like. BW/BW2 are fantastic examples of a complex story done right, with great characters, a good narrative that's told over the course of the gym challenge, N and Ghetsis being fantastic villains in their own right and a cool take on the core theme of the series.
Bad examples include
>Gen 2It's simple alright but in the worst possible fucking ways that makes me hate the region as a whole, with a shitty villain team with the dumbest plans and terrible fights, awful Gym Leaders, terrible level curve that makes the later exploration a slog and holy shit the final fights are so lame
>Gen 3>REEEEEEEEEEEEE THE LAND NEED MORE LAND>AAAAAAAAAAAA NOOOO WATER GOOD LAND BAD>Gen 4Cyrus is a turbo autist who intentionally hired a bunch of fucking morons who'd be too stupid to question his goals, only to end up surprised when this backfires on him because they're all fucking incompetent and get steamrolled by the player. Cynthia serves little purpose, the "Story" is convoluted ("I hate my life so I'm going to delete all emotions"), and it's probably the first instance of legendries being overblown or at least too unexplained for how you can capture them (the Pokeballs restrict their power or something I guess).
>Gen 6I love X and Y but fuck me the story is so god damn bad.
>Gen 8It's X and Y but even worse.
Gen 7 is going to depend entirely on if you like the characters or not, if you do it's top tier. If you don't, it's going to be fucking miserable.
