Gamers will never be happy with gameplay. You get casual games like NITW, 'interactive movie' they're dubbed. You get difficult games, they tend to be dubbed 'grindy'. Then there's PMD which is moderately difficult but not too difficult and people still dislike the gameplay.

Trawing through dungeons is much more enjoyable when there's a beautiful soundtrack. If I'm exploring a fresh dungeon where I don't know quite where the end is, it makes me feel lost in a new world. The Mystery Dungeon formula grants a gameplay feel of wandering in areas that are not quite familiar, though there are diminishing returns.

The biggest problem with Super is probably the system where randomly some of your allies just don't want to into a dungeon for some god-forsaken reason. Like, I get they were trying to make you change up your team or whatever, but there's a reason you'd want a consistent team to begin with. The over-reliance on items might piss off some people, but I think it's mostly fine. And I actually really like the Emera system, but I also just like the RNG bullshit part of these types of games so I'm probably in the minority when I say I prefer it to the IQ system from the older games.

Whatever you do, DON'T get chikorita. She's AWFUL. Good synergy and move coverage between starter and partner is what you want, whether that's as simple as fire and water or something more specific like "gets full room moves" and "facetank for damage"
Expect a solid game with great music and sprites, which can be a bit grindy and annoying at times. The story is good, but you likely won't be as emotionally impacted or invested as an adult. The writing is alright.

The program is very good, the only obvious thing that its missing is being able to edit/add Pokemon sprites.
You can do with with another utility but apparently getting that into sky temple is the next thing on the to-do list.

The partners are AI controlled. You can menu around and mess with their useable moves and tactics. It's not as annoying as it sounds coming from me

There are a couple of starters that can be hell for first timers. Chikorita and phanpy in particular.
