Maybe he should have sent out the team member that had a proven track record against Bugs and their Powders instead of Squirtle. Even with the bullshit of starting with two exhausted Pokémon and one that doesn't obey, a decent trainer would have found Ritchie's squad an easy win.

I can't bring myself to hate the kalos league since i never really liked the season, loved the seething that came from it and had all my anger dashed when the alola league showed that ash winning wouldn't have changed anything. I also didn't mind the sinnoh league at all since the battle against paul was just so satisfying that i didn't mind a loss (plus sceptile defeating the undefeated darkrai was also really good).

Hard to align Unova because that one just honestly felt more like a joke at the expense of everybody involved, writers and viewers. Didn't feel any investment enough to be annoyed by the loss to call it bullshit.

But he did deserve to lose. The point of Richie's character is to highlight what an inexperienced trainer Ash is. Even without Team Rocket he still would have lost to Richie because he never took time to be a proper trainer. This is even highlighted during the league arc with Krabby evolving because he never used it, and Gary mentioning that he swapped around his team instead of relying on two or three Pokemon. Ash never even made an effort at that point to train or earn Charizard's respect he'd just send it out and yell at it for not listening.

I don't give a shit about Tobias and the edgy dude who didn't even want to be there from Kalos. The fact that he lost to a retard who brought 5 pokemon, to a 6v6 in Unova takes the god damned cake. That was WAY more insulting considering the only way they felt he could lose in the previous season is if they threw a nigga with Legendary Pokemon at him.

Hoenn is unranked because I honestly don't even remember what happened.

That was the no-stakes post credit optional battle. It was absolutely amazibg tgough and I wish Ash got more battles like it. Imagine if AZ had been a thing in XY or if N had been handeled different in BW and he defeated them in a similiar way.
