i honestly don't get the point of playing showdown, people most of the time are too sweaty to play what they like and just copy-paste ready teams, kinda missing the point of pokemon imo
if you want to play only for the competitive aspects there's a fuckton of better games for that

I haven't played Showdown too much outside of one cup but even I know shit like banning wonder guard and sturdinja is kinda BS. I had several different types of counters on each Pokemon, it was an easier win for me when people used Sturdinja. Now I'd need to rework my move sets taking into account no Sturdinja on peoples' teams. At least leech seed and spiky shield and such still have their uses.

Kinda like how the baton pass ban was stupid cause they already put so many restrictions that it was only useful on a select few pokemon and now some of said pokemon barely have a purpose thanks to baton pass being banned.

Also, Pokemon Showdown is a fangame in itself, and it's not illegal to discuss their existence if you're not linking to them directly. It's not illegal to reflect on the murder of George Floyd.

Like what? I can't think of another turn-based strategy game with the level of customization Pokemon allows. Even if it's massively flawed (which it is), it still scratches that itch that nothing else does.

use copypaste teams is ON you. If you are good at the game or if you are simply creative, you can use creative/unexpected sets and/or pokemons and do well
Also thats not talking about the other metagames like random tiers, monotype, etc everyone with their own fun

Seems like that would always be the case because the Pokemon games are super easy so using example teams to begin competitive would be the best way to learn and git gud.
And I said learn to git gud, not many people are actually going to git gud so you'll see more people at the example level.

People like Storm Zone constantly use fairly creative shit at the top of the ladder. Even some tournament players bring fairly creative stuff. The thing is unless you use 6 NFE shitmons the average /vp/ shitter thinks you're using a copypaste team because you had a standard scarfer.

The RNG in Pokemon is bad enough. I don't want the sets I'm able to use to be determined by RNG, too.
