Having Ilima be 3 different gym totem captains is a neat idea, but you wouldn't want to break the formula before you establish it. Acerola being 2 is just kind of lame. I do like having the Masked Royal challenge you for the Championship the first time around, using all of Kukui's parts at once. A lot of the Totem battles were focused around specific moves on the members leading to focused strategies, so just listing species doesn't tell me much.

Why reuse Mina for the Poison Trial when Plumeria's still around? Her having to play Totem Captain as a side hustle to keep Team Skull's finances stable would fit her big sister personality and reiterate how hard Team Skull is having it.

Charjabug use a combo of his Battery ability along his special atacking helpers

Oranguru combine is Telepathy ability with Claydol's earthquake and Porygon's Discharge, + Instruct

Trumbeak its more simple, its a physical attacker, Rockruff supports with leer and Zubat with Confuse ray

I was suggesting her being a Totem Captain and in Team Skull, as an embarrassing job on the side she has to put up with despite her team's goal. Mina doesn't really have anything to do with Poison, I don't see what she'd be doing as a challenge or a setting.

Charjabug being a Utility Totem seems interesting on the face of it, but thinking about the actual flow of the battle has problems. If players focus on the attackers, the last act of the battle is a Charjabug that can't really do anything to the player and that's not interesting. If players instead smartly take Charjabug out first, then really it's a Totem Butterfree battle. I don't think I can imagine an ideal battle narrative for it.

Not OP but I generally prefer it when they don't give Hau a starter. Elio gets Deci, Selene gets Primarina and Kukui gets Incineroar. Alolan Raichu is his stand in for the starter.

Elite four would be a lot more interesting if they had legendary pokemon desu. Too bad it wouldn't work though since GF likes to treat legendaries like they're the only member of their species and it would thus disallow players from getting that legendary
