Hardcore Sinnoh and Unova are clearly abundant, but is the wave of Kalos love ever coming? Is it already here? I suspect it may never arrive due to changes in how kids spent their time by 2013. But to the point of the thread, post your:

Not the best game, but I excuse it for being the first 3d game and adding a really awesome feature (Mega's). I also love how they gave my first and favorite Pokemon of all time a Mega before the other Hoenn starters. XY has tons of flaws which could've been patched up with a third version sadly it never came.

Thoughts On XY: It was good in my opinion, was not a huge fan of the second starter and the overwheming Kanto presence in the game but it was ok. Yvletal was an awesome legendary and Zygarde was cool too. Of course, we can't forget the anime and the whole Serena thing. Greninja was my favorite mon for a while. Overall it wasn't that bad.

last main series game I had fun with from start to finish, still a downgrade overall with less new pokemon to discover, less exploration, and broken exp share, but finally gave us trainer customization in main series and interactive petting/feeding/playing with our pokemon.

The XY hype in 2013 was when i found out this board and would come on here occasionally so it has that going for it. It was fun but after beating the league and the looker quests i felt unsatisfied. Other than that it was nothing to write home about i preferred ORAS and the hype it brought.

I loved X and Y. They made me fall hardcore in love with Pokemon once again and made me get into breeding for the first time ever. It also helps that the starters, excluding Chespin, were amazing and the box legendaries were awesome too.

In my opinion they're an example of what a painfully "good" game looks like. The makings of a great game were all there it's just that the campaign wasn't nearly as fleshed out as it could have been. Mechanically I think they're the best in the series though and a true evolution of Gen 5's philosophy. I think everything that came after Gen 6 was nowhere near as "good" as XY were, which is unfortunate.

I bought the 3ds and Pokemon Y, bc I found out that a childhood friend became a Poketuber and I wanted to battle him (last time we used a link cable back in elementary school) but he never added me
Game was ok, I liked the graphics and mega evolution was a nice gimmick
All in all, the game felt rushed and with a little bit more effort and endgame content it could have been a fan favorite

Its overhated, but its still probably the worst in the franchise, other than possibly swsh. Still, the game has pretty good side dialouge, good new features, megas, the pss, and some great pokemon designs. The starters were great too, and Chespin and Chesnaught are among my favorite pokemon

I actually really liked XY. To this day I still think they're the best games to get into competitive with and all the QOL meant you could have a full team ready to go in about an hour without access to hacked Dittos or items.
As games they're just good, in my eyes. Contrary to what most anons think I believe the story was actually really solid and Lysandre is one of the better villains. Gen 6 in general gets too much flack for the lack of Battle Frontier which upset me as well because I grew up in that place but at the same time even ORAS were good at worse and I don't think they're as bad remake-wise as FRLG.

I played Y about 3 years after it’s release, around the time I had already finished Moon so I don’t know if I have the most unbiased judgement. It felt very sloppy and half finished as compared to the experience I had with OmegaRuby which had been my only generation 6 game up to that point. Routes were very linear, pacing was terrible and all over the place (certain gyms could be swept with no problem and then suddenly you’d be up against leaders with mons nearly 10+ levels above you). The plot was also so bad that I barely even remember what it was about, it felt non-existent during gameplay. Overall it was just a pain to get through and more of me playing the game out of obligation rather than interest. Also I kind of noticed a change in design philosophy when it came to Gen6 mons that bothered me but I can’t place my finger on it.

I somewhat enjoyed it but its the weakest entry I've actually played. Game is just straight up unfinished, evil team is terrible, exp share is unbalanced, there's really no memorable characters to speak of and there's nothing to do after beating the league. Sill though, I enjoyed a lot of the quality of life improvements, the region design itself is pretty cool and the online aspects are nice (though I did more with the online in ORAS than XY).

I played through all of the games. I think you have a misconception of XY kids because it's generally agreed that Gen 6 was the worst gen, the love for them will probably never come as most kids like me who grew up with it also grew up with Alola which ended up better in every way.

I'm assuming I am who you meant by a "XY kid" as it was my first game. But like most I agree Kalos is just abysmal. For this reason I actually think SWSH are far from the worst games because there's nothing that could really make them worse than XY. Kalos is just unmemorable and Alola and Galar are far better to get into competitive with because of bottle caps.

I'm an XY kid. You've got things mixed up, OP. Even though I grew up with these games I still think they're massively overrated. It really isn't hard to see how much the Alola games improved on Kalos in more ways than one. Even things like the PSS and good character customization were kinda made irrelevant with SWSH having the Y-Comm and other good options, and people still think SWSH is even worse for some reason.
There's just nothing good about them. They're unmemorable, buggy, and broken.

XY are some of my favourite games. Not because of the game itself (although I admittedly love them, flaws notwithstanding) but because of the circumstances surrounding them. The online play for XY was the best the series will ever have.

Kalos is an outstanding region and the abundance of pokemon wasn't something I could fully appreciate when I first played it. Outside of that, Lysandre and I suppose the whole of Team Flare make me want to kill a man with how awful the motivation and goals were, as well as the overall designs for the admins/grunts. Multiple rivals was cool, even though I personally found a couple of them annoying. I never really cared about postgame as a kid, but I can understand the lacking of such to be a turn off for people. Objectively it's probably a 5 or 6/10 but I personally would rate it 8/10 and I await the eventual but inevitable return to Kalos in whatever form it takes.

I was in love with it when it first came out, and there's still a lot I like about it, but it definitely isn't the best game and it totally got the short end of the stick with ORAS sort of stealing its thunder and preventing GF from being able to develop Z. I liked the trainer customization choices best in that game for sure, and I liked the "four seasons" approach to the routes. Also loved the addition of Fairy type and the cities like Laverre and Anistar, and really loved the way the Pokemon League was designed. But other than that, I think it's a little "bare bones" compared to even SwSh, which feels like it has a lot more content even before DLC. It also has some very strong Pokemon designs that still hold up like Clauncher, Gourgeist, and Pangoro. Even if it has the infamous "you're not the one" sequence that scared the absolute shit out of everyone at the time, it really skimped out on creepiness which was a huge disappointment for me. I was really hoping to see another Old Chateau, and it's a damn shame we didn't get that in the one region it would have been perfect for.

I actually think Lysandre's motives were well founded because the whole game basically shows you the class imbalance in Kalos. The rich guy with Furfrou has no self awareness at how poorly he treats other people, the Chateau is full of stuck-ups, Lumiose City has slums with poor and starving kids in them, Trevor is abandoned by his parents and left with his sister, and Lysandre never goes two seconds on-screen without saying how beautiful it would be if people could just learn to share.
He even tries to lowball you where it hurts with your rival by mentioning how you had to fight over the mega ring because there was only one. He says the only reason he wants to genocide people is because resources are finite and people and Pokemon have become unsustainable.
You can say the plot is underdeveloped, sure. But the game does a great job of hammering away the themes without shoving them in your face constantly like Gens 7 and 8 do. It's one of the things that Gen 5-6 era GameFreak did really well. I'd even go as far to say that Gen 6 is only a step below Gen 7's plot as one of the best.

When I first played, I had mixed feelings about it. I liked the pokemon designs, pokedex, trainer customization(despite being so shallow for males), pokemon amie and the looker post game. But at the same time, I still felt like it was a downgrade from B2W2 in terms of content and that the story was bad. Nowadays, I've pretty much warmed up to it after discovering how great shiny hunting was. Not my favorite but I don't have harsh feelings about them, either. Plus, Megas are still the coolest battle gimmick.

It's below average. For the positives, Goodra is my favorite mon, I liked a lot of the Pokemon designs, Diantha and the Box Legendary battle themes were nice, the StreetPass stuff was convenient and neat. That's about it really. I don't feel strongly either way about Mega Evolution, Team Flare is still the worst Evil Team, began the game's slip into painful mediocrity, rivals were a joke, difficulty was upsetting. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, but it's still bad.

I honestly really loved them, I did when they came out and I still do, Megas were cool (some a bit busted), Comp (pre bank) was some of the most fun I’ve had, love the music, the region, and the new mons, I’ve played XY like 8 times by now and I’m on my 9th currently. They just came out at a really good time/were pretty good for being a “first in the system” game

The definition of wasted potential. There's a lot about the games that makes me want to like them (huge pokedex, amie being a great idea that the future games would take and run with, super training was fun, the new mons were some of the best designed, especially after unova and its middle of the road roster), but the games just feel like they are missing something. Mega evolution was a wasted concept (most of the ones that buffed shitters were only introduced in oras), the story felt like it dragged on and the characters were very unmemorable, and of course the games are easy as piss (which i have used to have a shitmon "challenge" run) and overall unmemorable. I suppose i'd call them the last games with soul, but there was a leak in the container.

A step down from gen 5, but I can see the ambition they had. The introduction of megas, trainer customisation and the PSS were all great. Some other features I don't care for, like Amie and the group of "friend" rivals. I honestly feel like if they had the time to synthesise the feedback, expand on elements lacking in the original XY (like the incredibly low difficulty and lack of postgame), they could have made a pokemon Z that was really well remembered. Instead, it will mostly be remembered for introducing a lot of good concepts, rather than for being a good generation in its own right.

XY were fine. I didn’t love them at first but replaying them has made me change my mind. Megas are cool and the region itself has a certain charm to it. Looking back they’re probably the last Pokémon games I really enjoyed, the series hasn’t felt the same since.

Yeah this was the same for me. I had a good group of friends back then and we all bonded by playing XY. I remember more about what happened while playing them than actually playing them.

They’re personally one of my least favorite games in the series, which is a shame b/c many of my fave Pokémon are from gen 6. I loved the megas, liked the introduction of fairy types and I was in awe with my first playthrough due to the new 3D graphics. However, even though I found the lore cool, they could’ve expanded on it wayyyy more. I know Pokémon normally doesn’t tell the best stories, but I found this story overall to be the worst in the series with very uninteresting characters all around—all of the rivals sucked, team flare was very forgettable, Lysandre’s goals were the most generic out of all the villains, and the cast of characters including Diantha felt very flat, they were all lacking personality and soul. The most interesting character and part in the story was AZ and his relationship with Floette, but even that could’ve been set up so much better for a bigger impact. I definitely preferred ORAS and its characters display more personality that kept the story a bit more engaging even if it was simple. Still prefer Emerald to ORAS though, gen 6 overall was lacking that sense of adventure and exploration that you’d get from previous generations—Emerald had so many different obscure places with so many little mysteries, trying to get the Regis alone was enough to keep a kid busy and searching. Gen 6 also marks the point where the games got insanely easy and lacking post-games. I don’t know why is it so hard for Game Freak to combine the best things about each generation into one game and keep building from there, it’s like if they spend too much time on graphics then we get a shit story, but if we get a cool story, they’ll place unenjoyable gameplay mechanics

Had lot's of soul and lot's of potential but is the most unfinished game i the series only beat out by SwSh obviously. While I appreciate it for being mostly fun I generally put the game down at the point where I get the lucario by force cause that's just too pandery even for me. You literally get a snorlax, a lapras, the kanto starters with their mega stones etc too, like man I just wanna enjoy gen 6 for the stuff FROM gen 6

ORAS was just as sluggish and boring as the original ones. They just took away the reward at the end of the snail race (The battle frontier)

BW/BW2 is INCEDIBLY easy and handholdy with bad mon designs, bad gym designs, boring and uninspired characters, super linear, and overall a very boring region. Unova is just very ... meh. It's very similar to Kalos but you need to make your way around different parts of Kalos.

I'm playing the game again for the first time in 10 years and my opinion hasn't changed yet, just more deep-seated the idea of being easy and handholdy that I didn't realize when I was 13.

I had stopped playing by fire red, but gotten back into pokemon by the time black and white 2 had been out for a while. I see X and Y as my return to the game. I was excited to see the progress, and have played X and Y the most out of any of the games. However, I have since learned that "progress" doesn't always mean better.

Respectful disagree. Gen 4 has a lot of pretty good mons.The gym designs aren't great, but thet're not the VS Seeker Rollercoaster in Thundercunt's gym. Most of the characters are pretty okay but not as good as Gen 1 and 2. The Sinnoh Region is pretty interesting with Spear Pillar, Mt. Cornett, and the Distortion World.

I loved XY and fairy type was some hype shit. Dragon needed a nerf and poison needed a buff. PSS was functional, shiny chaining was probably the best it's ever been (not that I've been anything other than an injectchad, but cool that it existed the way it did), the fossilmons are now mainstays, a lot of people love aurorus and tyrantrum. Goodra is cool, klefki is awesome, megas were hype even if like every single other gimmick they pandered to gay ass genwunners. Competitive was a great meta with so many pokemon to choose from. I don't understand how anyone could say XY is worse than SwSh or ORAS, for modern titles. It's on par with 2, 4, and 7 imo.

They’re overhated but still not great. I like the Megas, aside from that can’t say they really stand out. The exp share also makes them piss easy

Trevor and Tierno are pretty much shitters who mean nothing.

Callum/Serena isn't a bad rival overall

Shauna is decent as a love interest for the PC, even though I think Pokemon is a series that shouldn't have/doesn't need a love interest.

It was alright, I liked it more than B/W, but it still felt half baked. Amie was a nice connect with your Pokemon feature even if the effects were stupid for the main game and I liked that the online was really easy to get into. I just wish there was more to it, you know? Inverse battles would be fun to play in more than one single location of the entire game.

even by pokemon standards, his motivations were very very shallow. Team flare is also pretty retarded.
I agree that the gym leaders are pretty good, and there are other things about kalos that I enjoy, but it felt like even the Looker side quest had higher stakes than the main story.
