>>45927662Kanto starters are all great. Charizard is exactly what every kid wanted their pet lizard to grow up into, blastoise is a departure from wartortle but makes it work, and venusaur is a step down from the previous two but is such a great concept that it's still good.
Decidueye is almost cool but like samurott it has a really wonky awkward gimmick that just doesn't work at all. Incineroar is a case study in the issue with modern starters, just a cat head and tail on a dude's body. I can believe seals singing to each other out on a beach, I can't believe an entire species of heel wrestling tigers that secretly have hearts of gold. Great character, bad pokemon. Primarina is one of the better modern starters to me. A bit frilly for me and the front flippers are awful but it's a decent mermaid pokemon.
Inteleon looks like a person but acts like a lizard and rillaboom looks like a gorilla but acts like a person. God that drum absolutely wrecks it. Even when they get one aspect right they fuck up the other half. Cinderace was born in the same test tube as lucario, disgustingly blatant shillmon. Another really wonky concept for attacking too, like samurott, decidueye, and rillaboom, but not quite as bad. In spite of its weird proportions, inteleon is the only one that has a gimmick that makes sense.
