Mega Evolution is cool because it hearkens back to Dragonball Z type stuff.
Z-Moves and Dynamax being Jojo and Ultraman references are half-baked. I'm not even certain we CAN call the Z-Moves a reference to anything in particular.
Megas also had the positive of making some shitmons viable, like Beedrill, etc. Gsmefreak DID fuck up by having too many megas of popular/good pokémon.
I wager the people who hate megas are salty that their favorite didn't get one (like Flygon), or that it got one that was "ugly" (like Aerodactyl).
I respect someone's right to dislike megas, but anyone who prefers Dynamax or Z-Moves is a cad.
