Yeah sure, flying types don't get affected by spikes but I'm pretty sure flying doesn't have many premier defensive pokemon apart from skarmory who is neutral to pebbles anyways thanks to its steel typing.
In fact, steel has some of the best defensive pokemon and to help them even more with it (because clearly they needed it) they don't even get hit by pebbles that much thanks to their resistance to rock.
I really just don't understand how introducing a hazard that inflicts type based damage (which just seems like a retarded concept to me) does the job of dealing with switching better than just making spikes more widely available.
