Tierno is a stupid fat fuck that likes to dance and uses exclusively dancing moves. This is juxtaposed with how he's the literal bigger dude in the group and is always the one to look out for the others with some stupid tutorial or tip about what's up ahead.
Shauna is a ditz who probably canonically has autism. The game doesn't shut up about how she's obsessed with patterns but they actually tie this nicely into her dynamix with Clemont later in the game which comes up when she uses his gadget to break into Team Flare's hideout.
The only really one-note character in the group of friends is Calem/Serena because they're literally (You) but a punching bag.
The fact I can pull this out of just the friend group, who are objectively the worst and most unlikable of the bunch from XY, speaks wonders because most of this isn't shoved in your face constantly like Hau's Malasadas or Lillie and Gladion's mommy issues. That said it's always there and the game is constantly giving you hints from it in their interactions.
