Don't see why not. People said it wouldn't see 5 then 10 years, Ishihara thought it was dead after Gen II and he works in the midst of the whole fucking thing.

I honestly don't know. Part of me thinks that even big franchise games have to die eventually, right? But Pokemon at this point has so many angles that fucking up in one particular area (even the mainline games, as they have) doesn't really harm it because they have so many different projects and merch and promotions going. It would certainly be a slow death, if it died. A lot of things would have to go wrong at once.

Oh, absolutely. People seem to forget that series never truly die. All it takes to bring back a dead series from 30 years ago is a company executive deciding to dust off one of the old IPs to cash in on a new generation of gamers that haven't seen it before and are into retro games. I could see Pokemon dying temporarily within my lifetime, but there's no way it'd be put down for more than a decade. At the end of the day it's a highly recognizable IP filled with cute easily marketable mascots, and that's worth it's weight in gold.

Mario probably won't die for the same reason Mickey Mouse, Batman, or Spider-Man don't die. It's the same reason Pokemon likely will survive too. There's a constant influx of new fans due to new content and older generations sharing it with their kids. Just look at how many parents were playing LGPE on social media with their kids. Those kids will continue to play, and one day even after growing out of it they'll likely pass it on to their kids or they'll get younger siblings at some point to share it with.

I guess you're right. It'd never totally die because it could always be brought back and to an extent once something like Pokemon is out there it's part of history forever, but I take "die" to mean more like a fading relevance or slow decay.

Plus, thanks to being attached to Nintendo, if they ever do anything truly terrible they'd just get absorbed by them and then probably still make Pokemon games, just with more oversight of Nintendo. I dunno if that'd make the games better or worse.

The digital creature/pet void will likely last as long as society as we know it does, but a potential usurper like yo-kai watch or temtem will always be in development and eventually get things right for a generation where Pokémon fucks up. Can you imagine if the shitty SwSh games were released alongside a serious competitor that got everything right? I would have switched franchises - you can only shit on your fanbase for so long before they betray you.
