What about the Poketch because some trainers use coin toss in battle?
How far do you want to stretch it before these "in-battle gimmicks" no longer count?
There's a very clear way to distinguish them. Poketch, Wonder Launcher, and Mega Rings are all associated with a region, but they're never stated to be exclusive to that region. Plenty of characters use them just about everywhere and this is seen in all forms of media.
Z-Moves and Dynamax on the other hand... They're stated explicitly to only work in Alola and Galar respectively. In both cases those characters have had the dongle removed in subsequent appearances. The Kahunas and protagonist who all have the dongles prominent in their design in both the art and in-game have them mysteriously missing in Masters, yet this isn't the case with Mega Rings where characters that are known to have them have the ring visible on their person and those who haven't been still carry a keystone that enables them to Mega Evolve anyway.
Look, i'm not particularly fond of megas either. But just because you grew up with the Alola games thinking that "regional gimmicks" were already an established thing doesn't mean that the franchise necessarily needs to change to fit your headcanon. This is just how it is. Megas as a collective hardly have anything to do with Kalos or XY, and they've always been way more prominent in remakes.
