I don't think they've appeared because Z-moves have been explicitly stated to be only an Alolan thing, whereas Megas can happen anywhere from the get go and all GameFreak has to do to implement dynamaxing is say "It appears power spots have mysteriously started to form in regions outside of Galar!" and put a Sonia or Hop NPC somewhere in the game.

Yes but people were using megas in Hoenn and Kanto, which shouldn't be possible considering it was hammered in that Mega evolution is only in Kalos.

I liked Z-moves the most because it forced your character to join the fight, even if it was only through a dance. Mega evolution is cool, but unfair to the many pokemon left behind. Dynamax is just corrupt energy, and Eternatus being able to take the power away is a turn off from a lore point of view.
