Poor sales in Japan might have mattered a decade ago, but the franchise has been focusing more on international sales and brand recognition lately. Splitting the 'dex between all releases in a Gen gives normies a reason to buy at least one of each content release in a Generations son. It's a basic fact DP won't have any the Galarian legends and only the ones who share regional forms found in the game will be available for trade, the rest will be "conveniently" left out.
Should have realised that one when they released DLC instead of a rehash replacement like in every past Gen.

I unironically kneel, BotW was fun despite all the /v/ memes of how empty it is. This is retarded. Kirby Star Allies and Fire Emblem Three Houses both failed to raise sales compared to their 3DS counterparts. It is clear that the roof of "games constrained by the Wii U flopping" is higher than "games that were on the 3DS, which was a significantly healthier platform".

You're looking at it arseways kid. The series has an image of being a children's game and series as opposed to Mario's "everyone" and Zelda's "10+ older" images. The only times it's sold greater than other games on the same hardware, is when the normie audience don't adopt the console, leading more sales of the system's games to be pokémon, due to everyone buying it for their kid, as per usual.
When the normies also picked up the DS and Switch, small wonder there was more people buying a wider range of games, leading to a more varied top-selling list. The key you're ignoring is they have a greater increase in sales from Gen VII to VIII already on a smaller overall playerbase than in Gen IV, where it took DP 3-4 years to pull 1.5m sales ahead of the last paired entry and that was on a system with 154m total unit DS units sold, SS had 3m extra on SM after 10 months, with no actual title launching to kill its sales either.

What are you talking about? Being on a console or not means nothing. What matters is install base. Pokemon was on GBC, GBA, NDS and 3DS, all of which outsold the N64, Gamecube, Wii and Wii U.

The Switch is outselling all not-Wii Nintendo Consoles due to being both a console and a handheld, sure, but it is still pretty normal hardware numbers for Pokemon to exist within, while the other games get a boost since those series haven't been in a healthy platform usually. (can't even call the Wii healthy when most of its owners clearly ignored not-Wii Sports games)

A mix of lukewarm reception (due to needing a gimmick controller that frankly did not work well) and the Wii being on it's dying days (next gen consoles from competitors already out and dedicated gamers were already bleeding from the Wii userbase).
It honestly did as well as it possibly could on that situation and considering it frankly just wasn't very good.
