Even though SWSH still sold a ton despite the backlash, that backlash is still probably not something Nintendo want to have happen again (especially considering they themselves probably see it as mostly justified given the nature of the issues the backlash centered itself around - a 3D console game with less Pokémon than a 3D handheld one?). Iwata definitely would never have stood for such a thing, and although he’s no longer with us: I imagine there’s still people high up who understand the value of his approach and of making games with integrity (which Pokémon has slowly started to lose, and somewhat lost with SWSH).
We’ll have to wait and see, but sooner or later I think things will improve again (one way or another).
