youre supposed to immerse yourself in the world and enjoy the characters’ lives and journey and read what they have to say. If you just skip dialogue it’s like skipping pages in a book which means there is no story to you so all you do the entire time is flip through the pages.

If a game is trying to tell a story thats half of the game and experience.

The other cutscenes actually progress the story. In BW2 the early cutscenes are mostly just handholding bullshit. It's easily the worst game in the series right behind gen 7 in this regard.

How is this scene pointless? We are shown from the very beginning of the game that her father didn’t approve of her going on her journey. It makes sense he would try to drag her home at some point. It didn’t come out of nowhere.

The problem is that it feels too ham handed. Maybe the translation was just shitty but the dialogue felt stilted and it felt as if they were trying way too hard to push a lesson. The gym leader says a couple things to him and suddenly he's okay with it. I mean I'm not expecting a masterpiece but if you're gonna make me sit through a contest tutorial and some story stuff, at least give me a reason to care.

It's crazy the direction they went with this game. It's literally not your own adventure. The sad thing is even with the amount of dialogue you have to go through it's completely forgettable and poorly written compared to literally any other RPG out there. Do the people who love BW's story literally only play Pokemon?
