Pretty soulful region, the game design and pathing is horrible tho, I agree with that.
BW2 change of pace using the whole map before the late game was a great fix.

The bw iteration wasn't so bad, it felt like there was plenty to explore despite going in a straight line, because the dungeons were paced well and the desert being mostly optional really helped
the b2w2 version sucks, though, it is so disjointed and you can barely explore

Nobody plays Pokemon for the map design and dungeon crawling. There are bigger fish to fry in Black and White, the neutered difficulty. More than any Pokemon game, BW stands out as the easiest pokemon games.

All pokemon games are a railroad track. There are no optional routes. Backtracking is a illusion of choice. Gamefreak just finally stopped pretending there was any. Be happy the dungeons aren't a hallway, instead of being angry you cant battle gym leaders out of order.

Yes, but is there a reason to?
The Gym Leaders don't scale in accordance with how many badges you have, nor is there a net gain in holding off on an early gym until it's your seventh or eighth, depending on how much leeway the game will give you, because that gym's Pokemon are still going to be leveled as if you were still there at that point of progression some hours back.

I'd say that's a bit unfair, as not only is it a very late game route, it's also from the sequel, but in most other Pokemon games the last routes are usually pretty bad and third versions barely add any good maps when they do add things. I'd say something like Route 6 is more typical for a Unova route, in that it usually has one major secret to it. Hell, Unova Route 1 connects directly to completely optional routes, which is more than a lot of others do (we can argue about Kanto and Sinnoh if you want though).
