Sure they were pouring time and effort into the games but they poured time and effort into red and blue too, and those games are objectively awful, even if they're subjectively charming little diversions. They're not good games.
I don't care about lore, I care much more about cohesion and consistency. I want a big map where I can walk from one end to the other, I don't want to have my immersion broken when I remember, "Oh yeah, it's literally impossible to encounter certain pokemon because I'm playing version A of the game instead of version B." I want to be able to get everything, and even if I DON'T get everything, I'll be satisfied because I'll know nothing's been gated off from me.
I made this thread because I can't enjoy the main games anymore. It's not fun feeling like I'm solely beating a game just so I can migrate the pokemon over to a new gen for some completion percentage number to go up. I don't want to get a second DS and a second cart just so I can trade pokemon to myself which wasn't even the devs' intention when making trade evolutions to begin with.
