Sup /vp/. I used to post here all the time in about 2013-2016, but I bailed after Sun and Moon. My friend recently bought Let's Go Eevee and he likes it, he says it feels like playing the original Red and Blue games with updated graphics and mechanics, but I know he was never as big of a Pokemon autist I once was. I am considering checking it out, but I wonder if it's really any good by the standards of the other main series games. Is it pretty much another gen 1 remake with aspects of Pokemon Go? What's the consensus on these games around here?

/vp/ never really has a consensus. personally I enjoyed it more than FRLG since the overworld encounters and new distribution work well with the updated graphics to make the region feel new. It is about as good as kanto can get with just the 151 (also includes alolan forms of the pokemon that have them, increasing variety.)

It's barely a remake. It is just Yellow with better graphics and Go's ball throwing replacing wild battles. I wouldn't recommend buying it for full price, since it doesn't have the content to back it up, but if you can find it cheap or rent it give it a try. Seeing following mons done really well, and having a few mons ridable makes it worth at least a few hours of your time.

Checked yourself. Just know that they do strip the games back down to it's barest form. No held items, no abilities, no breeding. Don't think of this as a modern pokemon game, it is a gen 1 game.

The only real complaint I have with this game is how easy it is (unless you're a shiny hunter, then it might be the hardest one in all the main series) and how lame the rival is - but it's worth a playthu.
I will also say that I prefer FRLG and that it's not worth paying more than $30 for.

If you go into LGPE accepting that it's a cutesy little side game for younger players you'll probably have a good time. I did. It isn't worth 60 dollars and it isn't the best game in the series but I think it's at least a solid spinoff.

Oh, I didn't know that. So that's how it's like the originals. That is kind of a turnoff now that you mention it, but considering I haven't been that seriously into Pokemon in a while I can probably still enjoy it for what it is. I'll probably get into the Diamond and Pearl remakes more, I just found out about them.

Other than this it plays exactly like a kanto game, just with overworld pokemon and following pokemon. I had fun with it, but its clearly below average in everything besides graphics&visual aspects. You should never buy it at a full price, its a complete scam, if you can get it reused or pirate it, much better. Also, do not buy a switch just for this game lel.

There are vocal people on /vp/ who hate the games. No abilities, no items, no later gen evolutions, no wild battles (except legendaries), no breeding, no sevii islands, no substantial new content, completely dead online, forced exp share, and koga's gym requires you to have caught 50 unique pokemon. When docked you are forced to use motion controls to throw the ball and the game has to be played with 1 joy-con (all other controllers disabled). If you're friends with whoever offline then have them lend you the cartridge for a day or two, or have them portably bring their switch to you so you can try it if digital.

The consensus seems to be that if you like what it's trying to be (a simplistic reimagining of yellow with go mechanics) then it's genuinely quite good. It's only issue is that it's 60 bucks when it really should be 20
