The Galar Particles are causing massive amounts of space distortion.
The game explains that Dynamaxing doesn't actually make Pokemon big, it distorts space around the Pokemon to make them look big. And then, in the final battle against Eternatus, there's a bunch of glimpses to other areas of Galar floating around the battlefield.
Put simply, the Galar Particles are acting similarly to Ultra Wormholes, only instead of warping to other dimensions, it's warping to other areas within a single dimension.
