They kind of forget about Trevor mid-way into the game but he has a few points where he challenges you to compare the dex and does serve as a dex rival, Serena is your traditional rival, and then Shauna is just a supportive friend. But Tierno? Tierno serves no purpose at all. He's built around dancing, his Pokemon are built around dance-related moves but there's nothing for him to do as a rival. He's just talks about how much he loves dancing it's absolutely non-sensical.
